CDTC releases draft schedule of transportation planning activities it will undertake for next state fiscal year and recommends Bridge NY projects.

ALBANY, NY February 2, 2023 – The Planning Committee of the Capital District Transportation Committee (CDTC) has approved the release of the Draft 2023-2024 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) and the Draft 2022 Bridge NY projects for a 25-day public review.

The UPWP is CDTC's annual work plan for the Capital Region, establishing staff and consultant assistance budgets for transportation planning activities to be undertaken between April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024. Community planning project proposals must advance the principles of CDTC's metropolitan transportation plan, New Visions 2050, and be consistent with planning factors in the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Federal funds in the UPWP are primarily made available through the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Transit Administration.

CDTC invites members of the public to learn more about and provide comment on the Draft 2023-2024 UPWP in the following ways:

  • Visit CDTC’s UPWP page to review the Draft 2023-2024 UPWP document right now
  • Attend the Draft 2023-2024 UPWP Virtual Workshop on Thursday, February 9th at 3pm to hear directly from staff what the UPWP is, what work CDTC will be completing in the next year, and budget information
  • Take our UPWP survey and submit comments, open through February 28th
  • Drop by our Open House on Tuesday, February 28th from 4p-7p at CDTC’s office at 1 Park Place, Albany, NY 12205

In addition to the UPWP, CDTC is also accepting comments on the Capital Region’s Draft Bridge NY awardees. The Bridge NY program provides funding for local government bridge and culvert repair and replacement projects in New York State. Local bridges are assigned federal funds through CDTC, and culverts are assigned state funds through NYSDOT. To review the list of bridge awardees and submit comments, visit CDTC’s Bridge NY Program page.

CDTC Executive Director Sandy Misiewicz said, “Our draft work plan for the Capital Region contains transportation planning projects valued at over $5M in federal, state, and local funds. This planning work will advance the implementation of our regional transportation plan and supports local planning for a range of mobility options. In addition, the over $19M in bridge projects being recommended for funding will greatly assist local governments with maintaining our transportation system.”
