CDTC's safety planning initiatives have been evolving over the last 10 years as crash data availability and quality has increased significantly. CDTC is currently developing a Regional Safety Action Plan which will evaluate regional crash data, with particular attention paid to users of roadways owned and maintained by Cities, Towns, Villages and Counties. The planning process will identify both site specific and system level safety project candidates to compete for Highway Safety Improvement Program funds using a data driven, publicly informed, transportation planning process.

The role of CDTC in security planning continues through involvement with Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPC) at the county level and providing modeling assistance to law enforcement for evacuation planning.
