Travel demand management (TDM) refers to efforts to reduce auto travel and congestion by improving transit access, bicycle and pedestrian access, providing opportunities for carpooling and telecommuting, and other strategies. TDM reduces congestion, reduces the costs of driving, and it is an important way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Capital Moves is the Capital Region's resource for travel options including vanpools, carpools, transit, walking and bicycling, bikesharing, carsharing. The site also maintains the region’s Park & Ride lot database.

People are often worried about what they will do if they take a bus or carpool to work but need to stay late unexpectedly. The region’s Guaranteed Ride Home program provides a free taxi ride home to pre-registrants who walk, bike, carpool, vanpool, or take transit to work or school at least twice each week.
