In June of 2014, NYSDOT and FHWA held an ADA webinar, which discussed municipal requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act, specifically related to sidewalks. A number of CDTC's Planning Committee representatives requested formation of an ADA Working Group to work toward completion of municipal Transition Plans. Some goals of the Working Group are to serve as a clearinghouse of useful information, to encourage a consistent approach among the region's municipalities, to help ensure transition plans are done correctly, and to assist with methods of data collection for pedestrian facility inventories.
CDTC staff collected a complete dataset of the locations and materials of all sidewalks within CDTC's planning area. As of March 2018, staff forwarded this data to each municipality with sidewalks.
For additional resources, including materials from the September 2016 FHWA Transition Plan Training for municipalities, see the ADA Resources page.
Comments Welcome through November 8th on CDTC's Self Evaluation and Transition Plan
CDTC has prepared a draft Self Evaluation and Transition Plan of its policies, practices, and procedures, and is seeking public comment through November 2018. The Draft Self Evaluation and Transition Plan document contains a nondiscrimination statement as well as a grievance procedure and complaint form. It evaluates CDTC's public meetings policy, its written publications, the office location including access to the office space and toilet rooms, and its website. The Transition Plan specifies improvements CDTC will make or cause to be made, as well as a timeline for those improvements.
Please send comments by November 30, 2018, via email to firstname.lastname@example.org, or mail to ADA Self Analysis, CDTC, 1 Park Place, Albany, NY 12205.
