Worried about what you will do if you take a bus or carpool to work but need to stay late unexpectedly, or leave suddenly to care for a sick child? CDTA’s Guaranteed Ride Home Program helps to take away that worry.

How it Works

You can receive a free taxi ride in the case of an emergency, if you:

  1. Have a valid monthly CDTA bus pass, or
  2. Have registered for the Guaranteed Ride Home at iPool2.org because you commute in one of the following ways at least twice each week:

Walk,
Bike,
Carpool,
Vanpool,
Transit.
To sign up on iPool2, create a username and password, enter your work and home information, then choose “Guaranteed Ride Home” and complete the GRH registration form.

To use the program, call CDTA at 482-8822. They will ask for your name and either the ID number from the back of your bus pass or your Guaranteed Ride Home registration number.

The Fine Print

Program limits are 2x/month, 6x/year, and $300/year. The ride must begin at work but may end at home or another location, such as child care or a park-and-ride lot. Emergency-related interim stops are also permitted. At least one end of the trip must be in Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, or Schenectady counties. Emergency is defined as illness (family or personal) at work or school, personal or family medical emergency, missed the last scheduled bus pick up, and unscheduled overtime after arriving at work. Additional riders must pay their own cab fare. If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it – customers lose Guaranteed Ride Home privileges if they do not use the service once it is arranged.
